Immerse in Verse
Australian Champion bush poet Gregory North presents rhyming Australian verse from past to present.
Through use of voices, props and student involvement the great Australian tradition of rhyming poetry
is brought to life. Students experience some of our classic poetry from the past as well as modern
subjects presented in that same traditional style that is appealing all over again. Poetry is meant
to be performed and that’s what makes it so much fun!
- Show duration: 50-60 minutes.
- For middle and upper primary (years 2-6 in NSW). [Can also include K & 1]
- Preferred audience size: 60-100 students with a maximum of 250 for a single show.
- Cost: $5.00 per student. Minimum charge $300 depending on travel.
Australia has a great tradition of bush poetry and Greg presents some of the classics as well as his
own original poems. Children participate as characters in poems and witness a truly Australian art form.
The show Immerse in Verse features the following poems:
- The Ant Explorer - C J Dennis

- The Triantiwontigongolope - C J Dennis

Here’s what some teachers have said about the show:
Students and staff both thoroughly enjoyed your performance. Students take it in turn to recite a poem
each Friday for assembly and your performance has given them all food for thought. Just the simple addition
of a hat/moustache etc can bring so much to a performance.
Many thanks,
Debbie, Borenore Public School NSW.
Thank you for visiting our school.
The children were very engaged and enjoyed the show. You were able to keep students interested with your
animated deliveries and by involving them by inviting contributions and having them join you ‘on stage’.
Thank you for showing them how much fun poetry can be!!
Sally, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Orange NSW.
Thanks so much for your entertaining and engaging performance with us at Catherine McAuley. I personally
valued your recitations mainly because of the sheer fun of them and know the children enjoyed them. Each poem
told such a great story and the involvement with the children really promoted a love for poetry.
Helen, Catherine McAuley Catholic Primary School, Orange NSW.
